Feh Will We Get Xander Again

"I'm not particularly smart, and I don't have much charisma, either. So I have to gain trust past experiencing the pain that anybody else is..."
—Roy speaking with Lance

Roy is a playable character and the protagonist of Burn down Keepsake: The Binding Blade. He is the son of Eliwood, the master character of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, and heir presumptive of Pherae. Roy is the leader of three armies: the Pherae party; afterwards the entire Lycia army after it's previous leader passed on; and eventually he assumes the control of the regular army of Etruria.

Roy's female parent could be either Lyndis, Ninian, Fiora, or another unmentioned woman, depending on who Eliwood gained supports with in The Blazing Blade or if he had whatever supports at all. He makes a brief cameo in the ending of The Blazing Bract.

His get-go game appearance was in the Nintendo-brawler Super Smash Bros. Melee, prior to the release of his ain game, The Binding Blade. The appearance of Roy and Marth sparked a greater level of Western interest in the Fire Emblem serial, and was partly responsible for Nintendo's decision to release the games internationally, beginning with The Blazing Blade.

The Blazing Bract

At the terminate of The Blazing Bract, if playing Eliwood's route, Eliwood asks Mark, whom he met during his story, to name his firstborn child. That kid, Roy, appears briefly at the terminate of Fire Keepsake: The Blazing Blade in an epilogue that takes place xv years after the events of the game. During Eliwood's visit to Castle Ostia, Roy accompanies his father and meets Hector and his girl Lilina for the first time. The two quickly run off to play as their fathers discuss the unrest occurring in Bern by Zephiel.

Roy's mother passed on at some signal of his babyhood. During his upbringing, he was wet-nursed by the Pheraen lady in waiting Rebecca, and was raised with her son Wolt, his milk blood brother. He is eventually sent to study in the capital of Ostia with Lilina. Cecilia becomes his instructor, specifically honing his skills with the sword as he has piffling aptitude for magic.

The Binding Blade

Roy draws the Binding Blade before existence promoted to a Great Lord.

Roy is simply xv years sometime when he is chosen to fight in front end of his troops of Pherae, during the time in which his begetter Eliwood that was seriously sick. He is chosen dorsum  home because the land was existence attacked by bandits. He manages to stop the looters, rescuing his father and Lilina, who was and then visiting Pherae. He becomes the leader of the Lycian army after the unfortunate death of Hector of Ostia, their previous leader, and the imprisonment of his daughter Lilina. Those events unfolds every bit a result of Bern conquering the neighboring nations of Sacae and Ilia, and had turned its sights to the Lycian League. Post-obit the Lycian code, each province is obligated to send their armies into battle against those who would assail the nation-states. Marcus and Merlinus, veterans of war, are important figures that guide Roy during his journey and from whose he seeks counseling.

He marches to Araphen, to meet the mercenaries Dieck, Shanna, Lot and Wade, who were hired by his father Eliwood, to fight forth Roy against Bern. However, he meets the servant Elen, who introduces him to the princess of Bern and sis of King Zephiel, Guinivere, who had escaped from her land in the hopes of negotiating a treaty with Lycian nobility. Roy quickly agrees to her proposal to search for a peaceful means to finish Bern's aggression, and it is this encounter, forth with his tardy arrival at Araphen to a dying Lord Hector, somewhen leads him on a journey across Elibe to salve the continent from another war between dragons and humans.

Afterward Hector's death in Chapter iii, Roy is bound by adjuration to protect the Ostian lord's girl, his friend Lilina. Upon knowing that she was was being held convict in her ain castle, he marches to Ostia to rescue her. On the way to Ostia, he tries to find a stay in the lands of Thria, and tries to entreatment to the marquess Orun for a identify to balance. They are welcomed equally guests in the castle by the treacherous soldier Wagner, who had assassinated the true marquess and planned to kidnap Guinevere. Roy discovers the plan, but fails to successfully leave. They are attacked past Wagner, and during the battle Roy frees some prisoners of the castle, including the sacaen Sue, who shared the same common enemies and joins the group to liberate her land and seeking revenge from being unfairly imprisoned.

Arriving the majuscule of Lycia, Roy fights the Ostian knights  Leygance  and Devias, who had seized control of Ostia. If Lilina survives the battle, she and then leads Roy to a hole-and-corner cavern where they obtain i of the Divine Weapons: Durandal, the Blazing Sword.

His campaign in Ostia forced him to put Lycia under Etrurian protection, because the generals of Etruria Cecilia and Perceval moved their troops against their king'south wish, to assistance Roy, after he pleaded in last minute assistance confronting the surprise assail of the general of Bern, Narcian. The Lycian army and then is summoned to deal with the problem of bandits in the mines of Western Isles, a colony of Etruria. As it's a dangerous mission, Roy trust princess Guinevere to Cecilia's care. During the campaign, he meets the rebels Larum and Elffin, and learns virtually the oppression that the islanders endured in the hands of corrupt Etrurian nobles. He and then joins the rebels to defeat Arcard, his chancellor Roartz and their subordinates Morgan, Nord and Oro, who were exploring the workers.

Upon reaching Juteaux, the capital of the isles, Arcard successfully flees and they need to defeat a dragon left in the throne of the Castle instead. Roy then receives news that a coup d'etat had installed in Etruria. Cecilia was one of the merely survivors, just was forced to fight aslope the invaders. Roy, worried, marches to assistance her, only to notice her resisting and being submitted to a country of near death in a battle against king Zephiel. Afterwards meeting Guinivere again, who rejoined his army after running away from her blood brother over again, with the help of her bodyguard Melady, Roy then leads his army to recapture the castle in which Cecilia was a prisoner, hoping that she still is live.

Cecilia is successfully rescued and joins the army, and he discovers through the half dragon Sophia, Cecilia's cell prisoner, that Bern was also invading her homeland Arcadia, in Nabata desert. After Roy frees her Arcadia, Sophia guides him to prove where the the legendary Forblaze is hidden. Roy then advances to Etruria'south capital, and a weakened rex Mordred entrusts Roy with the regular army of Etruria, beingness assisted past his 3 loyal generals, Cecilia, Perceval and Klein. Lycia and Etrurian armies then are merged together, forming the Lycia-Etruria alliance, with Roy being named the official commander. In face of the brotherhood, Roartz and Arcard are forced to flee and seek protection of Bern. The story then is split in ii routes.

Sacae

They discover that Roartz and Arcard fled to the lands of Sacae, which is under Bern command.  With the assistance of Sue, who knows the lands and culture of the plains, Roy leads the army to Sacae. The people of the plains are wary of strangers though, and they demand to fight the Djute, the largest clan of Sacae who was nether the submission of Brunya, one of the Wyvern Generals of Bern and King Zephiel'southward direct subordinate.

In Sacae's soil, they see Dayan, Sue's grandfather. and leader of one of the few tribes that were resisting Bern's authority. After numerous battles and surprise attacks, they achieve Bulgar, it'southward capital and center of commerce, and defeat Roartz who had taken command of the city. During the journey, they also see Niime, an hermit of the mountains, and through her they discover the mysteries of dragons of Bern, realizing that their true enemy and mastermind of the war was really a legendary dragon.

Later liberating Sacae, Sue alongside Dayan and Sin lead Roy towards the ruins of Sacae, where the divine weapon, Mulagir, is hidden.

Ilia

They discover that Roartz and Arcard fled to the lands of Ilia, which is nether Bern command. He reached Ilian soil with the aid of Shanna who knew the lands. Upon reaching the capital Edessa, Roy discovers that Juno, Shana and Thea's older sister and Zelot's wife, was kidnapped and held hostage  by General Murdock. They rush to gratis her and conquer the seized castle, consequently defeating Roartz and Arcard.

Later liberating Ilia, Shanna, alongside her sisters, pb Roy to where Maltet, the Divine Weapon of Barigan, is subconscious.

With Elibe almost complimentary, Roy advances to Bern and defeats the captain of Bern'southward Wyvern Riders Gale and the Wyvern General Murdock at the Shrine of Seals. He uses the ability of Fire Emblem, given past Guinivere, and unlocks the legendary sword, the Binding Bract. Roy and so draws the sword, triggering his promotion. Roy then avant-garde onto Bern'due south royal capital, and the during the battle within the royal castle, Roy finally meets the ane who started the war, Rex Zephiel, and confront him over his reasons for the state of war, and learns that Zephiel plans to overturn the conclusion brought by The Scouring and liberated the world from human control and return the world dorsum to the dragons. Rejecting Zephiel's dream due to his faith in mankind's potential, Roy battles Zephiel and defeats him after an intense battle.

If Roy had nerveless all the legendary weapons, the legendary weapons get-go glowing creates a lite that lead to the Dragon Temple.

Inside the temple, he meets Jahn, an dragon that survived The Scouring, who revealed the truth virtually the Demon Dragon and the Ending Winter, and slay him afterward his refusal to surrender. Then Roy finally meets Idunn, the Demon Dragon, who despite his pleas for to stop, decided to follow the mission left to her past Zephiel and transforms into her Demon Dragon form to fight. After an fierce battle Roy defeats her, but instead of killing her, Roy uses the Binding Blade to erase her memories of her identity as the Demon Dragon, asked Fae to restore her heart and soul, leaving her in Arcadia.

Epilogue

Once the state of war is over, a new era of peace is established. He assists Guinevere's coronation every bit the new queen of Bern, and completely devoted himself to the restoration of Lycia. Eventually he succeeds his father, Eliwood, as the next ruler of Pherae, making his land one of the primary superpowers of Elibe.

Roy will marry either Cecilia, Sue, Sophia, Lilina, Shanna or Larum. If he reaches A support with any of them, his chosen wife will become the side by side marchioness of Pherae. If he marries Lilina, who leads a united Lycia and becomes its first queen, he eventually becomes the consort king of Lycia.

Personality

Roy is bookish beau that is eager to learn and all of a sudden has to fill the role of a leader of the army. He is very nerveless and formal, as a result of his aloof background and being obliged to the role of General. However, despite interim confident in front of his regular army, inwardly, he oft doubts his competence equally a leader and soldier. In private he is noted to exist more relaxed and even somewhat clumsy, he is known to "dance with ii left feet." A competent leader and warrior, Roy is an upstanding, thoughtful, and idealistic fellow. While he would prefer to avoid bloodshed, he maintains a strong resolve to run across peace return to Elibe.

Despite his inexperience, being younger than his begetter was when he start fix out into battle, he quickly grows in his role of a leader, managing to command an always growing ground forces gaining people's trust wherever he goes. He is perceptive and cunning for his age – he tricks a traitorous Lycian vassal into exposing himself, suspects that the bard Elffin is more than he seems, even though he does non pursue the truth confronting Elffin'south will, and often reacts calmly and tactically to disturbing news.

He is committed to protecting those in need and fighting for his ethics, even if this means fighting against old allies. Still he demonstrates empathy, understanding that sacrificing people to prevail is a hollow victory. When his knights endeavor to continue him away from the front lines, Roy refuses to, stating that the but style he can understand people and fight for them is to experience their hardships. Valuing friendship and family profoundly, mirroring Eliwood, Roy does not particularly intendance most the social status of others, viewing Wolt in particular as a brother and not a vassal.

Merely contrasting with his father, Roy is non very good at handling women, being dense when talking with girls, and in some situations he shows to be oblivious to their feelings. He gets flustered and a bit overwhelmed by Larum's forwardness. He never even notes Lilina'southward fondness for him prior to the start of the game, and unlikely to realize this unless he decides to pursue her. He notably becomes depressed during the state of war, furthermore, in Shanna'south supports, he admits having trouble keeping himself in good spirits and he seeks her company to have a more cheerful outlook. Sue besides notes that he is sad and they both rising each other spirits, Sue teaches him how to connect with nature, while they seek each other to talk about their feelings while auspicious up. He heavily relies on his former teacher Cecilia'southward experience and back up, maintaining a shut relationship with her, looking upward to her as a more experienced mentor in the battleground; eventually they have a role reversal, in which Roy finds himself equally the one to actually teach Cecilia a lesson while missing their professor and student dynamic. As Roy matures he realizes that he is her equal and that both can learn with each other.

Every bit a unit of measurement, Roy starts with depression base stats and is sword-locked with 5 move. This tin can be mitigated by his growths later on a few level ups (with his HP and Luck growths being especially robust). He will not exist a feasible unit of measurement in almost playthroughs until his promotion, which grants Roy a large increase to all his stats. Further hindering Roy's viability is the fact that he cannot promote until later Affiliate 21 or Chapter 21x, when he receives his forced promotion and legendary weapon, The Binding Blade. Some other hindrance is that every chapter has a Seize objective, requiring Roy to capture a gate or throne and limiting his opportunities to fight.

Roy does have exclusive access to the Rapier, which has three times effective damage confronting Knights and Cavaliers (excluding Troubadours and Nomads), giving him utility within the starting time few chapters where effective weapons confronting Armored and Mounted units are rare. With some bosses upwardly until Chapter 10 being either a Knight or Condescending, Roy is able to perform a niche role. Although it must be noted that on Hard, Knights will generally take plenty Defense and weapon advantage to offset his effective damage. The Rapier is limited to 25 uses and there are merely two in-game (the other must exist found within a chest in Chapter 7).

Roy'due south combat improves drastically upon promoting where he gets much needed boosts in all stats safe luck and obtaining the Binding Blade. The sword has a 18 Mt base of operations, good accuracy, decent crit rate, 1-2 Range, constructive impairment against Manaketes, and grants +5 Defense and Resistance. The blade also only has viii weight, so information technology will non incur whatsoever speed penalties. It can be used as an item to heal Roy for xxx HP but it is non recommended as the sword is limited to 20 uses.

All in all, Roy is an boilerplate unit throughout well-nigh of the game specially on hard way and may exist hard on some occasions. Simply he will eventually become a solid unit upon promotion, especially with the Binding Blade in the last two capacity.

Base of operations Set

Roy has rounded stats with some bulk, different most other Sword units in the game. For a Book I unit of measurement, none of his stats are particularly atrocious, just without a particular focus in stats he is flexible, simply cannot exceed units who have the stat focus. Interestingly, his Res is higher than his Def giving him a slight reward when combating dragons and taking hits from mages. Roy is among the plethora of Volume I units who suffers from the limited early Heroes weapon issue pool and lower base stat totals. With time though, Roy has defenseless up thanks to the introduction of the Weapon Refinery characteristic and beingness amongst the earliest Resplendent Heroes respectively.

His unrefined Binding Blade has a Bracing Stance 1 effect, providing a minimal boost of +ii Defense and Resistance when attacked. Although his build was intended to make him an enemy-stage oriented character, the boosts had a negligible impact on damage and he was unremarkable in the early meta of Heroes. With the weapon refine feature, Binding Blade could be upgraded and improved significantly. The Bracing Stance 1 upshot became Bracing Stance 2, giving him a +four Def/Res buff when the enemy attacks him and has a dragon slaying effect. Compared to other dragon slayers, he is the almost defensive oriented one given his weapon furnishings, naturally higher Res, and for the fact that his refined outcome gives him Quick Riposte, allowing him to double his enemy when they initiate on him when he has over 50% HP at the get-go of combat. That is non to say he cannot initiate during his own turn as his Atk, especially in his resplendent form, can potentially impale a dragon foe in a single turn.

Roy's Back up Skill, Shove is a express positioning skill which pushes an ally i space forward. Triangle Adept boosts the consequence of the Weapon Triangle, making him stronger against Greenish units just weaker against Blues ones. As the merely innate Triangle Adept user to have Rank 3 at 4-Star rarity, he is ideal for skill inheritance. Seal Defense applies a -seven Defence penalisation to his opponents later on combat.

Counters

Roy can be defeated by tanky Blue units who can shrug off his blows or Blue mages that tin can tear through his Resistance. Units like Reinhardt and Olwen can defeat him with Dire Thunder. Others such every bit Linde, Lute, and Delthea handle him simply as hands simply may take a hitting if he runs Distant Counter and they are not within Desperation's HP threshold. Particularly powerful Red mages such as Lilina tin can also overcome him with the proper skills. While Roy tin can counter Dragons, Bluish Dragons and those equipped with Swordbreaker are troublesome.

Skill Inheritance Options

Roy benefits from enemy-stage oriented builds, Steady Breath/Warding Breath serve equally excellent Skill A options while Afar Counter extends his countering range, allowing him to bank check more unit types. Skill B has a few options such as Wrath, Swordbreaker, Vantage, or Cancel Affinity which create different scenarios for him to exploit confronting certain teams. Skill C is flexible, Smoke and Hone skills are good choices equally well as Ploy skills given that his neutral Res is higher than his neutral Def. Roy also has enough Resistance to use Ploy skills, peculiarly if he has a Boon in it. As for his Back up Skill, using a standard positioning skill similar Reposition volition suffice. His Special Skill is flexible, though well-nigh run Ignis/Bonfire thematically or Glacies/Iceberg if his Resistance is higher than his Defense force.

Base Fix

Brave Roy has an average base stat full and even stat spread. As a Cavalry unit of measurement, Brave Roy can take full advantage of Cavalry Strop skills which assistance his offensive, player-phase oriented base kit. Nonetheless, Brave Roy's stats requite him the flexibility to function in both phases and the thespian tin can cull to make him an enemy-phase unit with the proper skill inheritance.

Dauntless Roy wields his begetter's sword Blazing Durandal, a powerful sword with a +3 Attack bonus and an inherent Heavy Blade 3 outcome, accelerating his Special cooldown so long as his Attack is higher than his opponent's. With a neutral Attack of 51, there are a handful of units that can nullify this result. Brave Roy can prevent this by augmenting his Attack through Summoner or Marry Supports and stat-boosting skills.

Brave Roy's Blazing Durandal complements his innate Galeforce, allowing him to speedily charge information technology so he can acceleration enemies or move abroad from danger. Steady Accident boosts his Speed and Defense by +4 when initiating combat, assuasive him to double more enemies and provide some bulk. Desperation guarantees a follow-upwardly assault then long equally his HP is at 75% or less.

Counters

Brave Roy tin defeat most enemies with ease except for Blueish units, specially bulky ones that can shrug off his high Attack or Blue Mages who tin exploit his low Resistance. If he is running a defensive Distant Counter set, he can at least deal pregnant damage confronting most Blueish mages. If outside of Vantage's HP threshold, Reinhardt, Olwen, Delthea, and Linde are easy counters. Anti-Cavalry weapons such as Ridersbane, Zanbato, Poleaxe, Dusk Uchiwa, Wing Sword, Rhomphaia, Thani, Dawn Suzu, Taguel Fang, Bunny Fang, or Wolftomes deal constructive harm confronting him. Micaiah'due south Thani is one of Roy'due south strongest counters equally she has color advantage, magic damage, and effective harm confronting Cavalry.

Skill Inheritance

Regardless of his build, Dauntless Roy favors the following skills: Reposition as the standard positioning skill, Draconic Aureola or Blink as his Special to capitalize on his high Attack (in conjunction with boosts and bonuses from allies), and a Cavalry Support skill since he excels on Cavalry teams.

If run defensively, the Distant Counter and Vantage combo creates a resilient, high dissentious wall for foes to overcome (particularly when combined with a Quick Riposte seal, granting a follow-upwardly assault against most enemies).

An offensive build should use Swift Sparrow, boosting his Attack (rather than Defence force like his default Steady Accident) is preferable for maximizing his Blazing Durandal's potential. A budget alternative would exist Fury, equally it provides stat bonuses in both phases but inflicts slight recoil later combat. Swordbreaker will aid Dauntless Roy against the prevailing Speed sword meta.

Subjective: The following part of this commodity is based upon the editor'southward personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.

Base Fix

Valentine Roy entered Heroes every bit the second Cavalry archer after Brave Lyn. Different the vast majority of Bow Cavalry units, he is incredibly slow. In exchange, he has the best mixed bulk and in combination with his base of operations weapon, he is an effective ranged cheque, able to easily withstand hits from most ranged units and retaliate in tow. However, his low Spd tin can actually serve equally an advantage equally he can freely cede this for his ane and simply offensive focused build described below in the Skill Inheritance department.

Gratia has the standard effective damage against Fliers but can too neutralize visible bonuses on enemy ranged units during combat, which is useful against Bladetome units who rely on these bonuses.

Reciprocal Aid swaps Roy's HP with an Ally, assuasive him to activate sure skills with HP thresholds or save himself. Death Blow boosts his Set on +6 when initiating combat, syncing well with most of his offensive-reliant builds. Bow Valor doubles SP gains for Bow users, making him valuable for training them to gain skills.

Counters

Valentine Roy has plenty bulk to survive a few hits but his inadequate Speed allows a vast majority of units to double him. Whatever unit with at least 27 Speed (only 24 Speed is needed if he has a neutral Speed of xix) is guaranteed to double him regardless of his stat Asset. Most units in these Speed thresholds take loftier enough Assail stats to negate his bulk. Bulky units can endure his hits and those with Distant Counter similar Hector, Fallen Hardin, Zelgius, Valentine Ike, Caineghis, and the Armored Tikis retaliate lethally. Raventome users similar the Mage Robins, Sophia, and Lyon accept an inherent Weapon Triangle advantage and can exacerbate it with Triangle Adept. As a Cavalry unit, his vulnerability to anti-Cavalry weapons is worsened by his subpar Speed.

Skill Inheritance

Valentines Roy every bit a defensive, range-baiting is due in role to his mixed bulk. While Gratia is workable, Guard Bow boosts his Defense and Resistance by +6 (to a respectable 33 Defense and 36 Resistance respectively) when attacked by a ranged foe. Maximizing this involves using both the Distant Defence force Skill and Seal (giving him 45 Defence and 48 Resistance against ranged units), making him about impervious to ranged units. Quick Riposte once again gives him the means to double and is a natural fit for this build. He can accept a Cavalry Back up skill but he has enough Resistance to run a Ploy skill (Defense Ploy is encouraged since the Physical units information technology affects will likely accept comparably lower Resistance). A standard positioning skill like Reposition is suggested for all of his potential builds. Iceberg plays naturally off of his higher base Res and is suggested for this defensive build.

His depression Speed makes him an ideal Brave Bow user, as the Speed punishment is unimportant since it guarantees a follow-up assail, which complements his default Death Blow skill. Moonbow volition accuse quickly and partially reduce an enemy's Defense upon activation. Quick Riposte shores up his enemy-phase by giving him a double. Otherwise, he tin inherit a Weaponbreaker skill to target specific threats (Swordbreaker is recommended but it is a matter of personal preference). Since he performs optimally on Cavalry teams, a Cavalry Support skill is his best option.

Subjective: The following part of this article is based upon the editor'due south personal experiences and opinions, and therefore may not be applicable for all readers.

Base Set

Legendary Roy is superior to his standard class. He has no real weakness aside from his average Resistance. While he has a decent mixed bulk, his Attack and Speed are exceptional. His flaws are inconsequential plenty to encourage his use and can mitigated past the proper skills or supports. His status every bit a Fire Legendary Hero gives him and his Burn down Blessed allies a +3 HP boost during Burn down Seasons and also allows Roy to Pair Upwards with an ally, giving him a the flexibility to change into another marry in an unfavorable position.

Dragonbind is faithful to its GBA counterpart, every bit information technology is a Dragon-slaying weapon with a Distant Counter effect. Roy is a difficult opponent to handle at whatsoever range and is a threat to Dragon units. Human being Virtue is his unique Support skill, it grants a +6 Set on and Speed bonus to all side by side allies and himself at the start of a turn. The just caveat is that this will non apply to Animate being or Dragon units, and the personal bonus volition not activate if the merely ally next to him are those unit of measurement types.

He too introduced Bonus Doubler which doubles all bonuses on each stat independently with a corresponding heave during gainsay. In tandem with Human Virtue, information technology leads to a minimum +12 Set on and Speed (giving him a combined 62 Assail and fifty Speed at neutral stats). Even unmerged, these stats would rival some of the about powerful merged units. Legendary Roy possesses Dragon Fang which increases his damage by l% of his Assail (taking Bonus Doubler into account, he tin can potentially launch a massive 93 Special Set on). Renewal allows him to recover 10 HP every other plow.

Counters

He can still be repelled past bulky Blueish units or Blue mages that tin can tear through his Resistance, even with Bonus Doubler active. His HP and Resistance are low enough to exist susceptible to Panic and Ploy skills, both of which nullify his ability and plow his bonuses into penalties. Aversa, a mutual Aether Raids enemy unit of measurement, poses a particular threat. He is vulnerable to Dauntless Lyn likewise as Dazzling Staff and Firesweep Bow ranged units, unless he has Null C-Disrupt equipped.

Skill Inheritance

Since he lacks a Support skill, Reposition is a superb selection for unit positioning. Bonfire has a higher percentage of damage added and works well with his Defence force. Wrath accelerates his Special's activation when under a certain HP threshold at the start of a plough while boosting his damage upon activation. Swordbreaker is too an excellent upkeep option to combat the Speed sword meta.

Roy's inclusion in Super Nail Bros. Melee marked his very first appearance, which preceded the debut of his own game, Burn Emblem: The Bounden Blade. His inclusion in Smash also sparked involvement in the Fire Keepsake series in the Due west and was partly responsible for Nintendo's decision to release the games internationally, beginning with the seventh title in the series. Nintendo of Japan had originally intended to make him playable simply in the game's Japanese release, merely when he garnered favorable attention during the game's Northward American localization, Nintendo of America decided to go along both him and young man Fire Emblem protagonist Marth in the North American and European versions. Roy speaks Japanese in all of his appearances in Smash due to the Burn down Keepsake series' exclusivity to Nippon prior to Melee; Roy is voiced by Fukuyama Jun.

Melee

Roy is a clone of Marth, sharing a like moveset focused effectually speed and mobility. However, there are some key differences such every bit the Binding Blade having its sweetness spot at the base of blade, dealing more damage if an attack connects there. Nigh of his moves are as well slightly stronger and slower also every bit sporting fire furnishings.

Roy is an unlockable character and tin exist acquired past completing 1P Archetype Mode as Marth without using continues or past alternatively playing 900 VS. matches.

Brawl

In the next installment in the series, Super Nail Bros. Ball, Roy may have been originally planned to exist in the game, simply was cut possibly due to fourth dimension constraints, or other unknown reasons. A package of unfinished programing found within the code of the game labelled "ROY" has been found via hacking. Roy too has both an unused graphics issue file (ef_roy.pac) and an unused fanfare.

For 3DS and Wii U

"Roy Seals the Deal!"
—Roy's introduction tagline.

An early leak on June xiii, 2015 revealed that Roy was set to return in Super Smash Bros. 4 and was officially announced and released on June 14, 2015 as a DLC character. Roy's render was offset hinted via datamining the ane.0.6 patch for the 3DS version which revealed a data file labeled ROY was subconscious in it. Like Marth, Roy continues to only speak in Japanese and Jun Fukuyama reprised his part every bit his vocalization, re-recording the original Roy audio.

Roy's gameplay, for the about function, remains largely the aforementioned every bit he was in Melee, having the same sugariness spot at hilt of his blade. He received numerous new standard attack moves and different properties to his specials, making him largely different from Marth compared to Lucina. Roy's mobility has also been enhanced and he is overall much faster relative to his Melee iteration to accommodate his aggressive playstyle. Roy also received a redesign, based on his design as a Great Lord in The Binding Bract. Some of his palette bandy are references to other Elibe series characters including Alan, Lance, Marcus, Eliwood, Zephiel, Cecilia, and Bors. Special Moveset

  • Neutral Special - Flare Blade: Roy lifts the Binding Blade over his head while igniting it and performs a two-handed downwards slash that explodes on-impact, similar to his standard assail animation in his game. The motility tin exist charged in place upwards to 5 seconds and will initiate one time the player lets go of the special push, and the motility can be freely reversed via the control stick. If the maximum charge time is reached, Roy will automatically unleash the attack, creating a large, fiery explosion in front end of him. A fully charged Flare Blade always deals fifty% to any enemy that it hits and will result in a OHKO unless on a stage with an impassable roof, or if used against very heavy characters from the opposite end of the stage. It will also inflict 10% (12% in 1v1 matches) recoil damage to Roy, even if he does not connect with anyone. Information technology can too intermission shields at full accuse.
  • Side Special - Double-Border Dance: Roy's side special motility. Roy performs a series of different slashes depending on the button input by the player. After performing the standard side special input, the player can press B while pressing up, down, or forward, up to 4 attacks. With all the different movement variations, Roy can perform eighteen dissimilar versions of the Double-Border Dance move. Upward-angled strikes are outlined with bluish streaks, forward-angled variations are outlined with cerise streaks, and downward-angled variations are outlined with green streaks. Compared to Marth'due south version of the motion, the sweetspots deal more harm and are much easier to land, only cannot KO opponents equally early (although the move has impressive KO ability regardless).
  • Up Special - Blazer: Roy'south stage recovery movement. Roy leaps while performing an ascending vertical slash that can striking up to 4 times due to the fire consequence imbued in his blade. It gains armor during the get-go of the move when used on the ground, assuasive Roy to shrug off most attacks. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Roy now executes the attacks with a reverse grip uppercut slash and has more horizontal range, similar to Marth and Lucina's Crescent Slash custom move variation, while retaining the multiple hits. As an attack, Blazer deals both good harm and sports high knockback, making it a great KO move compared to Marth's Dolphin Slash. However, Blazer loses its armor event also equally about one-half its vertical distance when used in the air, which coupled with his lower jump height and faster falling speed, requite him an overall worse and more exploitable recovery than Marth.
  • Down Special - Counter: Roy's down special move. Roy momentarily takes a defensive stance and his body flashes for a brief instant. If any character attacks him with a non-projectile move upwards close during the flash, Roy volition retaliate with a fast downwards strike and deal ane.35x the amount of impairment that he would accept received, slightly stronger than Marth's which has a 1.2x multiplier. However, the move has more startup and the counter window is slightly narrower than Marth's too.
  • Final Smash - Critical Striking: Unlike Marth and Lucina's rushing version of the move, Roy's version is a close-range, stationary set on. Roy will beginning slowly swing the Binding Blade backwards. Whatever characters inside two character lengths in front of Roy volition receive upward to 5% during the first upwards swing while characters behind him can receive up to 10% and exist forced in forepart of Roy. Roy then slams his blade down, creating a large explosion, hitting any foe within two character lengths of Roy. This move has lower knockback compared to Marth and Lucina's version, requiring at least 50% on a very heavy character to KO them from the opposite side of Last Destination. If the move connects, wellness bars similar to the style of Awakening appear and rapidly deplete to zero. The blitheness for the motility is his bodily critical hit animation when he wields the Binding Blade.

Palutena's Guidance

Palutena's Guidance is featured in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, similar to Snake's Codec in Brawl. Pit holds a special conversation with Palutena and Viridi to comment on ane of Pit's opponents, giving him helpful tips most their strengths and weaknesses. This is based on the numerous chapter dialogue in Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Pit: Look! Marth dyed his hair red!
Palutena: Actually, that's the Young King of beasts, Roy.
Pit: The Young Lion?
Viridi: He's xv years quondam.
Pit: 15 years old?! Is that fifty-fifty legal?!
Viridi: It is in Ostia, where Roy spends his days as a noble, existence smart, brave, and undecayed. I bet he smells like heaven!
Pit: How am I supposed to compete with a guy similar that?
Palutena: Past non getting besides close, for one thing. His Binding Blade is extremely powerful at close range.
Pit: Or perchance instead of fighting, he'd be willing to talk out our differences?
Palutena: Don't be a baby, Pit. Only continue Roy at a distance and you'll be fine. He'south but dangerous if he gets close. But once he gets close, prepare to get mauled.

Fire Emblem 0 (Cipher)

Roy is illustrated in the trading card game with the following cards:

Uses

While not peculiarly powerful as a unit, Immature Lord of Pherae, Roy, is a showing of the Divine Weapons' focus on Support Skills, and the supporting mechanic, often having skills revolving around being supported by certain characters, and even special Support Skills. His Set on Support Skill, Hero Emblem, often does not appear at the right fourth dimension, or the set on unit is as well weak to use information technology correctly, and his Defence Support Skill, Hope Emblem, is not much ameliorate, unless your Champion is not Roy. General of the Lycian League, Roy, his new Field Cost one bill of fare, is a substantially stronger unit of measurement, assuasive you to filter out your hand with Will of Fire and Fate Keepsake, and too placing whatever card of your choice from your mitt to the top of the deck (this will be referred to every bit stacking). Certain Champions may wish to run a few copies of this menu, if only for Fate Keepsake.

Son of Flames, Roy, is a near-mediocre card, like most other Field Toll 2 cards, for forcing you lot to tap him and flip 1 Bail to place a card on top of your deck from your Retreat that isn't Roy, as his l Set on could certainly come more than in handy in attacking weaker units with ease. Leader of the Pherae Ground forces, Roy, has a Rear Line enemy movement result with the interesting status of being supported by a card with a Support Skill, which wastes an attack that could be washed on said unit. Rapier, while useful at times, will often not run across use, as there are picayune to no viable Beast or Armor units in Nix.

Young Lion, Roy, has a typical statline for his Field Price of 4(3), but has no notable skills, as Banner of the Brotherhood is generally a more than inferior version of Lodestar, Marth's Hero of Light, and Binding Blade will rarely come across utilise, due to either the forcefulness or frequency of Dragon units. Foretold Flame, Roy, notwithstanding, is a different story altogether. Each of his skills are once per plough each, and flip 1 Bond to do a variety of essential furnishings: Increase the assail of an allied unit of measurement, stacking a menu, moving an allied unit, and moving enemy units. Coupled with more than powerful Divine Weapons cards similar Pious Mage, Nino, and Lovely Duchess, Lilina, and even the help of other factions, Roy's ability is non to be trifled with.

Inheritor of the Sealed Flame, Roy, while notable for being in a faction that requires very niggling Bail-flipping to get good healing, continues to suffer from the syndrome of requiring 3 Bonds flipped and a copy of Roy, both of which are terrifyingly hard conditions to reach together. His issue of stacking a card may prove to be efficient in ensuring attacks land, just he is nonetheless a rather standard and rather useless finisher.

Roy is the protagonist of Hasha no Tsurugi manga, that adapts the Binding Blade Games.
